i-RED – More insight through light
i-RED was founded in 2006 by Wolfgang Märzinger and Peter Hintenaus as a spin-off company of the Upper Austrian Research (UAR) GmbH.
The base technology of our process spectrometers was developed by Wolfgang Märzinger during his PhD time at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz, Institute of Semiconductor and Solid State Physics. The technology was brought to preliminary product status at the UAR GmbH and RECENDT GmbH, respectively.
Product maturity could be achieved in 2006 by incorporating the expertise of Peter Hintenaus in the field of hardware and software. This laid the foundation stone for business formation in the same year.
Selected milestones from our almost 20-year success story:
S&W Spectroscopy Systems & Imaging Systems Pvt Ltd, based in Mumbai, becomes the sole distributor of i-RED technology in India.
After hiring a new employee towards the end of last year and the noticeably increasing lack of space, we are expanding our premises in the Techcenter Linz Winterhafen.
i-RED becomes a partner in the funded EU project MC4 (“Multi-level Circular Process Chain for Carbon and Glass Fibre Composites”) on the recycling of carbon and glass fiber composites (together with 15 other partners from 9 different EU countries; total funding: approx. € 7.5 million over 3 years).
In order to emerge stronger from the corona crisis, we have developed the world's first (combined) FTNIR Raman process spectrometer in recent months and have now launched it on the market.
First delivery of an i-RED FTNIR process spectrometer to an Austrian partner (industrial plant manufacturer), who equips his systems with our technology, thus creating added value for his own customers and giving us access to completely new markets.
i-RED is expanding its product portfolio with a promising measurement technology and is now also selling its own Raman process spectrometer, which has been developed in close cooperation with a global manufacturer of plastic recycling plants.
The effort has paid off: after 5 years of development work, the first FTNIR spectrometer of the latest generation – equipped with completely redesigned electronics, more system resources and increased measurement accuracy – is delivered.
Delivery of the first mobile measuring station for spectroscopic analysis of engine oils on the engine test bench to a renowned automobile manufacturer.
In May of this year, i-RED celebrates its 10th anniversary and a few months later expands its team with a new employee in R&D and application technology.
